Icefield Flightseeing – A Spectacular Birdseye View

Flying over an ice field with notorious Devils Thumb peak in the background.

There is nothing quite as spectacular as a flightseeing air plane trip over the ice fields and glaciers on a nice day. This is an activity that we highly recommend for all of our guests and well worth the cost. There are two methods of taking a flight seeing trip. The first alternative is to arrive at least a day before your cruise and take a prearranged flightseeing trip. And the other method is to have one of the planes fly out and meet the Norhtern Song and Alaska Legend on our cruise. The best conditions for getting the most out of a flight-seeing trip are when the cloud ceiling is high enough to allow for adequate viewing, so weather is a factor.

We work only with the best of the best of commercial bush pilots that own their own aircraft and are professionals with perfect track records. The companies that we work with fly up to date Cessna 185 airplanes on floats.

Doug Reimer – Nordic Air

I have personally flown with Doug for well over 10 years. He is a second-generation Southeast Alaska commercial pilot. Much of Doug’s summer is spent flying for one of the larger seafood companies where he is up nearly everyday performing parts and personnel runs and fish spotting for both the processing company and fishermen. nordicair@gci.net

Explore by air and you will understand why renown explorer John Muir, in 1879, described the LeConte Glacier as one of the “most imposing and first class glacier” he had ever seen. Marvel at the beauty and grandeur of this southernmost active tidewater glacier in North America. From towering icebergs to deep, jagged crevasses, this journey is breathtaking.

“…Oh, and did I mention the sea plane flight over Baird, Patterson and LeConte glaciers? Dennis strongly suggested getting a bird’s eye view, and we are most appreciative for this.”
